RESTORATION OF
CAPELA PASSO DA VIA SACRA SÃO VICENTE DE PAULA
The restoration of the Chapel, located in São Paulo’s state countryside, at the downtown area of the city of Piracicaba, lasted 7 months. Architect Vanessa Kraml, project author, requested the work follow up during the second month of activities.
Of tiny area (of about 14m² built on a site of 32m²), the work included many of the common aspects of a large sized restoration. Beginning with the rebuilding of the foundations, going through the removal of the cement mortar that covered some of the rammed earth walls, remaking of the ceiling, beneficial modifications to the rainwater drainage system and the altar airing, repairs to the wooden altar by gilding in gold leaf and religious imagery, restoration of the lining, floor and masonry finishes, and implantation of a new lighting system, landscaping project and a new support annex added to the original building.
